Effect of increasing concentration of Na+ions on the ATPase activity. The ATPase activity was determined in the reaction mixture containing the purified ATPase (30 μg protein), 5 mM MgCl2 with either 20 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.6 (closed circle), 20 mM Tricine-KOH, pH 9.0 (closed square) or 20 mM Glycine-KOH, pH 11.0 (closed triangle) and NaCl concentrations as indicated. The reaction was started by the addition of 4 mM ATP (Tris salt). All data are the average of three independent experiments with vertical bars representing standard errors.
